Beyond the Snow: Exploring Jackson Hole's Off-Piste Playground

Photo@Katie Botwin

As an avid snowboarder, I’ve explored the winter wonderland that is Jackson Hole Mountain Resort, but when the snow melts and the iconic ski runs turn green, an entirely different playground emerges. Jackson Hole’s rugged beauty isn’t just for winter adventurers—warm weather transforms this outdoor haven into a paradise for thrill-seekers and leisure lovers alike. From bike parks to delicious dishes, here’s just a little of what lies beyond the snow at Jackson Hole Mountain Resort.

Brown Powder at the JHMR Bike Park

Whether you’re still learning how to clip in or hitting double black diamonds, the Jackson Hole Bike Park offers thrills with a view. Novices can find smooth, flowy single track while seaosned riders can send it at the jump track. The new Sweetwater Gondola offers a 1,276-foot vertical ascent in 5 minutes which means more ripping and less uphill slogging.

We want everyone to get outside, and Jackson Hole offers adaptive biking options galore. In partnership with Teton adaptive, JHMR adaptive bike guides help all levels of adaptive athletes explore their epic bike park trails with an extensive lineup of adaptive cycles.

Effortless Exploration with E-Bikes

Okay, if you’ve giggled at a horde of e-bikes as their riders cruise by in matching helmets, you wouldn’t be alone. For the first time, I donned one of those bright brain protectors, straddled a matching e-bike with my friends, and we giggled for miles along paved paths admiring the Tetons.

Do you need to have an e-bike to experience the 56 miles of paved pathways that link the town of Jackson to Teton Village and Grand Teton National Park? No, of course not! That said, the added electric boost gives riders of all fitness levels access to breathtaking landscapes via bicycle. From wide-open roads to meandering paths through the valley, e-biking is an eco-friendly, high-adventure way to experience the natural beauty of the area. Whether you’re a seasoned cyclist or a casual explorer, the electric bike revolution here offers pure joy on two wheels.

If you happen to be missing snow (like I do year-round!), you can bike to the Teton Gravity Research shop in nearby Wilson for some snow-induced stoke.

From Peaks to Valleys, Hiking Trails Abound

Why hike at a ski resort? Well, the neat thing at Jackson Hole Mountain Resort is you can hop on the tram for 12 minutes, zip up 4,139 feet, and hike at an elevation of 10,450 feet. Bang for your buck, you get access to the high alpine environment without breaking a sweat. Whether you’re hiking or running, the trails here offer epic views of the resort and Grand Teton National Park.

If you’re in a hiking mood, you can also hop over to nearby Grand Teton National Park for more trail options.

Insider’s tip: If you take the tram up, make sure you stop at Corbet’s Cabin to grab a waffle! With flavors like Cobbler (mixed berry compote + whipped cream) and the Gateway (peanut butter + bacon), you’re sure to start salivating when you walk inside.
