AETHER: A Short Dreamlike Film Featuring Spencer O’Brien

Aether 5 is a short (9 min) sublime visual experience featuring snowboarder Spencer O’Brien, produced by Arc’Teryx.   Through the use of slow motion and textural cinematography, the film feels like a dream, capturing the sensation and beauty of snowboarding in the mountains. According to Arc’Teryx “Spencer blurs the line between reality and the ethereal, recalling the ancient concept of aether — the space between matter. As a tribute to this theme, every frame on screen was captured directly in-camera and remains unaltered.” 

As an integral figure in the snowboard scene for over a decade, Spencer O’Brien cemented her talent early on with her slopestyle prowess and technical riding. The two-time Olympian has recently stepped away from competition, leaning into expressive backcountry riding and sharing the exploration of her cultural heritage as a member of the Haida Kwakwakw’wakw First Nation.
